Deepika’s November cover for Verve magazine is one of her best yet. Only gripe is the forced cleavage effect, but then again, sex sells I guess.

It’s nice to see a non-model, non-starlet, non-filmi-wife on the cover of a magazine. Granted, Cosmo is not a fashion mag and granted, Chitrangada is hardly a nobody, but it’s still a nice change. Inside, she looks just as stunning and I especially covet that blue dress.

On any other mere mortal, I’d say that this entire outfit together was a bit too much. But on an apsara like Lara, I have to say the saree, blingy blouse and jewels just somehow come together. Could it be the killer confidence that allows her to carry off an ensemble where others fall flat?

There she goes and does it again! Last time, Priyanka wore a black dress that was just a bit off and she does it once more in this sequined gunmetal grey dress that seems somewhat off. Could it be the bottom portion? Had it been fitted from the waist to the knee, would this have looked better. As it stands, the dress is not spectacular but had it been cut a different way, this would have been a more positive writeup. At least the blue streaks are gone! By the way, she won an award at the 9th Annual Teacher’s Achievement Awards. Um, what exactly does she teach??

While Kareena does look pretty in a blue Manish Malhotra creation, it’s much of the same that we’ve seen from this designer (see Sridevi’s saree). So I can’t really applaud her choice of outfit since she seems to stick to the safe and staid. A risk every now and then would at least prove interesting. As for Saif, I have a personal aversion to blue on blue denim so detract points for that. Detract further points for scruffy beard and girly sunglasses but I would add a few points for worn-in cowboy boots.

If there ever was a time for me to decide, now would be it. Crying shame though that I can’t make up my mind about this nude/black overlay Valentino dress that Freida wore to the 18th Annual BAFTA Awards. Sure, it’s a frothy, sweet, girly confection but she’s been sticking to black a lot lately that I’d have liked to see more color. Should she have chosen the nude version instead from Valentino? No, absolutely not since it would have washed her out. Sure the shoes are sky-high and delectable but being a petite chica, she should have worn non-ankle straps instead so her leg line wasn’t cut off. So on the fence I sit on Freida’s attire. On Dev’s, he’s wearing his usual suit and skinny tie *yawn* but at least he looks scrubbed up; now if only he’d get a haircut. Overall, I’m not thrilled with this outing of the FreDev.

I’m all for dressing appropriately for the right event, the right time and right place. However, there’s dressing appropriately and there’s dressing appropriately well. Preity fails to dress ‘appropriately well’ at the ‘Human Trafficking NGO Event’ and instead dons a matronly, beige burlap sack that has all the fashion quotient of a nun’s habit.
